USU Announces Leadership Change in Caine College of the Arts

Dean Rachel Nardo stands at the lectern at the Caine College of the Arts convocation ceremony in 2022. Nardo will resign as dean effective July 31, 2022.

Rachel Nardo has announced she will resign as dean of the Utah State University Caine College of the Arts, with her last official day as July 31, 2022. She will then join the faculty as a special assistant to the interim dean and faculty until Oct. 31, 2022.

Dean Nardo joined USU in May 2019 as the second dean of the relatively new college.

“Dean Nardo provided crucial leadership over the last few years when managing education during the pandemic was particularly challenging for the arts,” USU President Noelle E. Cockett said. “She also initiated efforts to incorporate technology into programs for students who love the arts and help them apply entrepreneurial strategies as they develop their careers. I appreciate Dean Nardo’s efforts to advance the college and forge new educational connections for our students.”

On Aug. 1, Nicholas Morrison will step in as interim dean. Morrison currently serves as the executive associate dean in the Caine College and is a professor of clarinet in the department of music. In May 2022, he was awarded the Cazier Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing consistent excellence over his 30-plus years of serving the USU community.

When available, information about the search for a new dean will be provided on the provost’s website.
