USU Admissions Office Shares Latest Recruitment Efforts

LOGAN, Utah — The Utah State University Office of Admissions hosted a Recruiting Kick-Off event this past week, offering USU faculty and staff resources and tips on how to get involved with recruiting and strategies the university is using to help grow enrollment. Similar events took place at many of USU’s Statewide Campuses this week as well.

The event offered participants insights on the admissions process, scholarships and other financial aid, recruitment efforts in high schools, data and reporting, marketing, campus tours, recruitment collaboration and information on the Student Ambassador Program.

“With the projected decline of high school graduates in the coming decade, USU is continuing to diversify our recruitment opportunities,” said Shelby Frauen-Riddle, director of Recruitment Operations. “We are creating multiple pathways to USU, whether it be earned admissions, transfer partnerships, stackable credentials and workforce development, as well as sharing more of the opportunities across the USU system to fit students’ needs.”

For those unable to attend the event, the following updates were shared in breakout sessions:

• For 2024, USU has implemented 4-year academic merit scholarships for first time Utah residents at all USU campuses and centers. Students who have deferred from a previous semester and are returning for Summer 2024 or later will automatically be reconsidered for these new awards. Current students will not be eligible for them.
• The Earned Admissions process has been streamlined for students that are below the requirements to be admitted in good standing. Students will take a Preparing for College Workshop where they will identify strengths and challenges, define habits of mind of a successful college student and identify resources to help them succeed at Utah State.
• USU has a systemwide recruitment collaborative that holds trainings, promotes collaboration among different departments involved in enrollment management, and works to tackle the future challenges USU faces in recruitment.

One of the final key messages the Office of Admissions hoped to share was the opportunity faculty and staff have for being a great first impression of the university and sharing their thoughts on USU.

“Any USU employee could be the first impression for a future student,” Frauen-Riddle said. “If you have the opportunity, take the time to share your experience with USU, show your Aggie pride, and refer everyone you can to the Admissions Office.”
