Tooele Mayor Honored by USU for Land Donation to Tooele Regional Campus

Tooele City Mayor Patrick Dunlavy received Utah State University’s Friends of Regional Campuses and Distance Education Award for a 30-acre land donation from Tooele City. The award is given to an individual or organization in recognition of exceptional contributions that have positively impacted USU’s Regional Campuses and Distance Education system.

Along with the Tooele City Council, Dunlavy spearheaded the donation for the establishment of a future USU Tooele Regional Campus complex. USU will purchase an additional 20 acres to create a 50-acre campus that will serve local residents well into the future.

Ronda Menlove, vice provost for Regional Campuses and Distance Education, praised Dunlavy and the Tooele City Council for their value of higher education.

“They understand that university degrees will transform individual lives as well as fuel economic development and attract business and industry to Tooele City and county,” Menlove said. “The land donation to the Utah State University Tooele Regional Campus is an investment in the future of Tooele City.”

Dunlavy is a graduate of Tooele High School. He attended Utah State University, where he studied business administration and minored in history. Dunlavy began his service with Tooele City in 1967 as a police officer, leaving the department 11 years later as the lieutenant in charge of the Investigation Division. After serving as the director of City Parks and Recreation for two years, he was appointed the Tooele City Recorder and served in that capacity for 23 years. Dunlavy was elected to office in November 2005.
