Time to Say Goodbye: Editor Signs Off

Time to Say Goodbye: Editor Signs Off

It was just past two years ago when my newlywed wife and I stood in front of the Bellagio in Las Vegas and watched the water dance to the music Time to Say Goodbye. That marked a beginning for us, but today those words mark an end. (Don’t worry...that’s it for the reminiscing today.)

Yours truly has made a decision to pack up shop, load that same wife and newly-added daughter into the car and move on to another career opportunity. I’ll be hanging up my Utah State Today keyboard as of this edition.

My new job starts Monday (why take a break, right?), but I’ll be leaving my baby, UST, in the capable hands of Patrick Williams, a respected colleague and friend. All he asks in this transition is that you be patient. All I ask is that you keep reading; as I said, he’s capable and things will only get better.

As for the farewell message he asked me to write, all I can say is that I’ve enjoyed this job more than I can describe. I’ve had great colleagues with whom to work. I’ve had a great editorial team made up of professionals in every sense of the word. I’ve felt a lot of UST synergy from around campus. And during my almost nine months as editor, our team has taken Utah State Today from a 400-subscription publication to having a subscriber list of right around 2,100 readers.

All in all, there’s been growth and progress, and it’s been gratifying to be here for it all. And hopefully you’ve all enjoyed reading this past nine months.

But, as they say, all good things must come to an end, and I guess that applies to my time here. Thanks for the good feedback, and even for a lot of the bad. It’s made my time here memorable. So take care, wear a smile and keep reading. I’m about to become a faithful Utah State Today subscriber and join the ranks of the readers. And now that the time has come, goodbye.

Thanks to All,

Justin Smart
Former Editor, Utah State Today
