Three Utah State Men's Basketball Players Earn Mountain West Accolades

Max Shulga, Dan Akin and Steven Ashworth have earned Mountain West accolades.

LOGAN, Utah — Utah State junior guard Steven Ashworth has been named first-team all-Mountain West, while fellow junior guard Max Shulga was an all-MW honorable mention selection by the league's head coaches. Graduate forward Dan Akin was also recognized by the conference as he was named the Sixth Man of the Year.

In league play, Ashworth ranked first in free throw percentage (.920) and 3-pointers made per game (2.72), second in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.90), third in assists per game (4.83), third in 3-point percentage (.392), tied for eighth in steals per game (1.28) and ranked 10th in points per game (15.56).

In MW games, Shulga ranked ninth in the league in assists per game (3.56) and 10th in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.52). He has scored in double figures in each of the last six games and is tied for third on the team in scoring (11.7). Shulga also averages 3.7 rebounds per game and is fourth on the squad in both total steals (11) and blocks (six).

In Mountain West action, Akin ranked fourth in rebounds per game (6.89) and defensive rebounds per game (5.11), tied for 11th in offensive boards per game (1.78) and ranked 12th in free throw percentage (.765). Akin averaged 11.7 points off the bench in league play, shooting a team-best 66.4 percent (71-of-107) from the floor.

Utah State now travels to take part in the 2023 Mountain West Championships at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The third-seeded Aggies will play the first-round winner of sixth-seeded New Mexico and 11th-seeded Wyoming on Thursday, March 9, at 9:30 p.m. (MT).
