BLANDING, Utah — Utah State University nursing faculty Susan Dewar has recently been promoted to professional practice associate professor. Dewar is a nursing faculty member at the USU Blanding campus.

“I am grateful to Susan for her outstanding contributions to our campus,” said Kristian Olsen, senior associate vice president for USU Blanding. “It is great to see this promotion recognize and value her efforts. She is great and knowledgeable with students and represents our university well.”

Dewar will begin her sixth year at USU Blanding this fall, having joined the campus in 2018 as an assistant professor. She also serves as the nursing program coordinator and is one of two nursing faculty at the campus.

“I am very happy and excited, and I am looking forward to continue improving the program,” Dewar said. “The community medical facilities have told me that the quality of graduates has improved since I have taken over. They are much more prepared in the clinical area while they are in school and after they graduate.”

Prior to joining USU, Dewar was a teaching nurse for more than 10 years in Chicago at various institutions. She is a certified nursing educator and is QSEN certified. She became a nurse in 1996.

“It was really nice to come to an established university where curriculum was recently revised,” Dewar said. “The department and the community have been very supportive of the nursing program. It’s been the perfect blend of teaching and administration. Its the perfect job and the nicest I have ever had in my 15 years of teaching.”

Between 8-12 students graduate from the USU nursing program in Blanding each year. In 2022, the program had a 100% NCLEX passing rate amongst the graduate class. In 2023, that trend has continued.

Offering residential campus housing and dining, Utah State University Blanding gives students the personalized attention and small class sizes of a small-town college with the resources of a large university, all while providing award-winning education. With degree options ranging from associate to doctorate degrees, plus technical education offerings in Business, Technical Trades and Health Professions, USU Blanding offers programs that help fuel local economies and empower individuals and their communities.
