Hutton, Cooley named to preseason all-conference team

Aggie Trevor HuttonThe Sun Belt Conference announced its preseason all-conference team at the league's media day. The All-conference team features two Aggies — senior guard Trevor Hutton and senior tight end Chris Cooley. Both players are preseason national award nominees at their respective positions — Hutton is on the Outland Trophy and Cooley is on the John Mackey award watch list.

"I think both of them (Hutton and Cooley) are very deserving of being on that team," coach Mick Dennehy said. "I think we have some other kids that will feel like they should have been there. Thank goodness we have the opportunity for them to prove that at the end of the season."

Aggie Chris CooleyNorth Texas boasted the preseason offensive and defensive players of the year in running back Patrick Cobbs and defensive tackle Brandon Kennedy. In all, UNT landed eight players on the preseason team, followed by Arkansas State with four, New Mexico State and Louisiana-Monroe with three each, Utah State, Idaho, and Middle Tennessee with two each and Louisiana-Lafayette with one selection.

Utah State players will report to camp on Sunday, Aug. 3, and will open the year Thursday, Aug. 28, at Utah. The Aggies will play their first conference game in three years when they open the home season against Louisiana-Monroe and its coach, former Aggie mentor Charlie Weatherbie.
