Student Events Office Hosts Ribbon Cutting for Sawyer Hemsley Conference Room

By Carter Ottley |

The USUSA Traditions Committee hosts conference room ribbon cutting.

In an evening full of pink, cookies and celebration, Sawyer Hemsley cut the ribbon on the USU Student Association Events Office’s conference room on Oct. 2, 2023.

The conference room is now named the “Sawyer Hemsley Conference Room.” Hemsley received a key to the office and a plaque in the conference room.

“What I love most about USUSA is everyone can find a home here,” Hemsley said. “Regardless of how they grow up, where they came from, what groups they are involved in, or what their major is — this is the office that makes people feel loved.”

Hemsley is a USU alumnus and served as the Student Events Executive Director during the 2015-2016 academic year.

Following his service at USU, he went on to become to founder of Crumbl Cookies.

“This is where it all started,” Sawyer said. “That’s why I want to continue to give back as much as I can to this university.”

This past January, Hemsley made a $50,000 donation to the USU Student Association. This donation helped remodel the former barber shop and relocate the USUSA Student Events Office from the 3rd floor of the TSC to the 1st floor.

“Because of Sawyer's generous donation, the student events office has been elevated. We are so grateful for this new space and all we will be able to accomplish in it,” said Executive Director Avery Barton. “His continued support of the events office positively impacts the student life here constantly at Utah State.”

The officers in the Student Events Office include the Student Events Executive Director, Activities Director, Series Director and Traditions Director. These directors plan and oversee the major student events on campus including Weeks of Welcome, High Stakes Bingo, Mr. USU, The HOWL, Mardi Gras, PoBev and much more.

The Utah State University Student Association is the hub for student involvement and leadership at Utah State University. As the student government elected by the USU student body, the association works to improve the quality of campus life and enhance student well-being. USUSA is an organization made by the students, for the students, and because of students — every student at USU is a member of the association and can actively participate in all activities, committees, clubs, events and initiatives.
