Shelby Morse was named the 2021 Utah State Student Employee of the Year for her work in the Student Services of the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences (CAAS) and has now also been recognized as Utah’s State Winner of the Western Association of Student Employment Administrator’s.

“I was shocked and really excited!” Morse said of receiving the award. “I’ve worked for CAAS Student Services for two and a half years and learned so much, it’s nice to be recognized for all the work I put in. Everyone in the office is so kind and I have loved working here.”

Morse was nominated by Associate Dean Brian Warnick and his assistant, Kaylyn Shorthill, who served as Morse’s supervisor during her time with the student services. Work in the office includes assisting students and the college’s advisors and supporting college recruitment efforts.

“Working with Shelby has been a joy,” Shorthill said. “She is always happy, organized and efficient and has been instrumental in helping to streamline new programs and update procedures.”

The Oregon native has recently completed her undergraduate degree in animal, dairy, and veterinary sciences and is currently pursuing her doctorate of veterinary medicine from the Washington/Idaho/Montana/Utah Regional Program in Veterinary Medicine, beginning with her first two years at USU in Logan before moving to Pullman, Washington to complete her degree at Washington State University.

“Shelby is greatly missed by all of us in the CAAS Student Services office” Warnick said. “But we are confident that she will be highly successful in any endeavor because of the skills, talents and abilities she possesses.”

Shelby Morse has been honored as the state's student employee of the year by the Western Association of Student Employment Administrators.
