String Chamber Music Recital to Showcase Students in USU String Program

By Kate Stewart |

LOGAN — Students in the Utah State University string program will perform their string chamber music fall recital from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Nov. 17 at the Russell/Wanlass Performance Hall.

The program will feature the music of Beethoven, Haydn and Shostakovich, alongside contemporary works from the 20th and 21st centuries.

“It's always a really fun concert,” said Robert Waters, USU music professional practice professor & first violinist of the Fry Street Quartet. “The energy of the students is palpable and really exciting to witness.”

Each semester, students form new chamber music projects and prepare their repertoire under the guidance of the Fry Street Quartet, with additional masterclasses from the guest artists of the Chamber Music Society of Logan.

Twenty-nine USU students will perform at this concert. According to Waters, the students are excited to perform, because this is one of their favorite events.

“It's a really nice mix of music and it has become a pretty popular event, not just in the student community but in the general community as well,” Waters said. “We have lots of community members who look forward to this concert every semester.”

Waters also said the Fry Street Quartet members feel very proud of their students, and they are excited to see the growth they’ve made in becoming fine musicians and performers.

Tickets for this event are free for USU students, $10 for adults, and $8 for seniors (65+).
