Spring Concert Airs on Utah Public Radio

In March 2006, members of the Marvin Stamm Quartet traveled to Utah to complete a three-day residency at Utah State University. The workshop and a public concert were arranged and organized by Jon Gudmundson, director of jazz studies in USU’s department of music.

The March concert was recorded and will be broadcast on Utah Public Radio Saturday, May 26. The program runs from 8-9 p.m., immediately following “A Prairie Home Companion.”

“Listen and enjoy the concert if you were unable to attend the original show, or if you want to relive the show on UPR,” said Cathy Ives, general manager of UPR at Utah State University.

Members of the quartet include Marvin Stamm (trumpet), Bill Mays (piano), Rufus Reid (bass) and Ed Soph (drums).

At the time of the quartet’s residency at USU, Gudmundson provided background on the musicians. The quartet is one of the finest small jazz groups in the world — all members are bona fide all-stars, he said.

Utah Public Radio is a service of Utah State University, broadcasting a mix of information, public affairs and fine arts programming 24 hours a day throughout most of Utah and into southern Idaho. In Cache Valley, UPR is heard on KUSU (91.5 FM) and KUSR (89.5 FM).
