Sean Camp Promoted to Full Professorship

By Marcus Jensen |

TOOELE, Utah — Utah State University instructor Sean Camp has been promoted from clinical associate professor to clinical professor. Camp is a social work faculty member at USU Tooele, working in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

“This promotion is a validation of my time, effort and intentionality in my pursuit of teaching excellence,” Camp said.

Camp joined USU in 2008 as a clinical associate professor after completing his master of social work degree at the University of Georgia. Camp also holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Kennesaw State University. While visiting Utah during a break, Camp loved the area and decided he wanted to move here.

“I was teaching at and working on my Ph.D. in social work at the University of Georgia when I visited Utah and decided I wanted to live and work here,” Camp said. “An opportunity was available in the newly developing MSW program in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (Department of Sociology, Social Work, and Anthropology at the time), and I interviewed and was hired.”

Since working at USU, Camp has taught every course offered in the curriculum of USU’s Master of Social Work program, teaching at the USU Logan, Brigham City and now Tooele campuses. Additionally, he is the clinical director for a treatment foster care/community mental health clinic in Pleasant Grove.

“Sean Camp is one of the most popular professors on the Tooele campus — not only with students, but staff and other faculty as well,” said Jennifer Cowburn, associate vice president for USU Tooele. “He always has a smile and a moment to listen to whatever is on your mind. He is not only a brilliant educator, but a trusted friend. He is a true bright light on our campus.”

Camp has been active in the foster care and adoption fields for over 25 years. Prior to working at USU, he was the state director for a multisite child-placing agency in Georgia. Camp specializes in the areas of working with children who have been abused, transitional behavioral difficulties and child sexual behavior management.

Located in the valley of the Oquirrh Mountains, Utah State University Tooele offers students the personalized attention and small class sizes of a small-town college with the resources of a large university. With degree options ranging from associate to doctorate degrees, plus technical education offerings, USU Tooele offers programs that help fuel local economies and empower individuals and their communities.
