Savon Scarver Named Preseason All-American as 13 Aggies Garner All-Conference Recognition

Utah State football had 13 student-athletes named to various preseason all-Mountain West squads as Phil Steele's Magazine and Athlon Sports have both released their all-conference teams for the upcoming year.

Senior Savon Scarver highlights this group as he was named a preseason fourth-team All-American at kickoff returner by Phil Steele, along with being a first-team all-Mountain West selection by both publications.

Graduate transfer linebacker Justin Rice was also named first-team all-Mountain West by Phil Steele and to the second team by Athlon Sports. Senior safety Shaq Bond was named to the all-MW third team by both publications, while senior offensive lineman Demytrick Ali'ifua and sophomore punter Stephen Kotsanlee represented Utah State on Phil Steele's third team and Athlon Sports fourth team. Fellow senior offensive lineman Alfred Edwards was named to Athlon Sports third team.

Graduate defensive tackle Marcus Moore, graduate transfer cornerback Kyle Mayberry, senior wide receiver Deven Thompkins and junior linebacker AJ Vongphachanh were all selected as fourth team picks by Phil Steele's Magazine, while graduate transfer wide receiver Brandon Bowling, graduate running back Devonta'e Henry-Cole and graduate defensive end Nick Heninger represented Utah State on Athlon Sports fourth team.

Utah State opens the 2021 season on Saturday, Sept. 4, at Washington State and then faces North Dakota in its home opener on Friday, Sept. 10. Mountain West play begins the following weekend at Air Force on Saturday, Sept. 18.
