President Cantwell: Welcome to Spring Semester 2025
President Elizabeth Cantwell.
Correction: An earlier version of this message contained an incorrect date for the Spring Student Research Symposium. The symposium will be April 8-9.
Editor’s note: USU President Elizabeth Cantwell sent this message to faculty, students and staff on Jan. 6.
Dear USU Faculty, Staff, and Students,
I hope you had a wonderful winter break with the opportunity to recharge in your own way and to spend time with family and friends.
As we start this new semester, I want to remind you of our shared commitment to the core values that guide our work at Utah State University—excellence, ambition, collaboration, courage, innovation, and respect. These values are the foundation of our collective success, guiding our approaches to teaching, research, community engagement, and interacting with one another.
As always, spring marks the start of the legislative session, a time that brings opportunities as well as change. I am confident in our ability to embrace change and to navigate it together. We are building a resilient, agile university—one that grows stronger through challenges and adapts with purpose and vision.
Investing in higher education continues to be one of the most powerful and transformative choices we can make, both individually and as a society. Studies, including recent findings from the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute highlight the continued value of a college degree—not just in economic returns for graduates, but also in its broader contributions to the prosperity and well-being of our state.
This semester also brings exciting opportunities to connect and grow as a community. Mark your calendars for these important events:
- President's Forum on Conflict & Conflict Transformation on March 25, 2025, featuring the Honorable Thomas B. Griffith discussing strategies for fostering dialogue and growth through conflict.
- Spring Student Research Symposium on April 8-9, 2025, showcasing groundbreaking student research and academic excellence.
Thank you all for everything you do—for your thoughts and perspectives, for your hard work, and for all your contributions to our vibrant Aggie community. Make this semester one defined by learning, growth, and achievement.
Here’s to an amazing spring semester. Go Aggies!
With respect,
Elizabeth R. Cantwell
