Starting March 6, 2023, a section of Champ Drive will be closed until August 2023. The road will be closed in order to start preparations for the construction of a new building on the Quad.

LOGAN, Utah — A portion of Champ Drive will be closed for several months due to the groundbreaking and construction of the Mehdi Heravi Global Teaching and Learning Center. Beginning 6 a.m. March 6, Champ Drive will be closed starting at the roundabout located just past the Agricultural Science Building and ending at the purple parking lot.

The closure will be in effect until August 2023. Access to parts of campus on Champ Drive located further west, such as the David B. Haight Center and the purple parking lot, will be directed through the Aggie Parking Terrace.

“Buses and cars will still be able to access the roundabout that is adjacent to the Agricultural Science building,” said Becca Maynard, customer service manager for USU Facilities. “Those needing access to the southwest side of campus will need to drive up through the Aggie Parking Terrace.”

Drivers are advised to plan ahead and to expect additional traffic through other parts of campus during this closure. USU Parking has notified permit holders of necessary changes.

The Mehdi Heravi Global Teaching and Learning Center groundbreaking ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. March 22. The center will be constructed between the Ray B. West building and Old Main in what is currently the purple parking lot. The two-story, 37,700 square-foot building will house programs in the Department of World Languages and Cultures, including the Intensive English Language Institute (IELI) and the Master of Second Language Teaching program (MSLT).

Before construction begins on the building, Champ Drive will first be changed to a new, straighter design that allows easier access to the existing buildings, parking lot and construction site for the new building.
