Utah State University’s Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is welcoming Chris Babits as the new director of education and professional learning, starting Nov. 1.
Jane Irungu, the division's vice president, said Babits brings a crucial “wealth of experience."
“His educational background, experience teaching, grant writing, interdisciplinary research and engagements in learning opportunities all enhance inclusion,” she said. “Dr. Babits will continue to promote collaboration, elevate the intersectional lens and help us advance our goal and vision of an inclusive campus community.”
In his new role, Babits will continue to amplify, support and foster connections with the USU community to cultivate an inclusive and welcoming statewide system. He added he’s excited to “expand resources, develop and facilitate workshops, and work with faculty, staff and students to build the capacity and ensure everyone can be their authentic selves and succeed here.”
Babits has taught courses in history, intersectional gender studies, and psychology for the past three years at USU, but he also brings more than 20 years of experience working to advance diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility in higher education.
He has long been passionate about instilling inclusive and diverse perspectives in the curriculum and his teaching. He is also a celebrated author whose work has been published in multiple journals.
