New Programs Added To USU-Moab's Career & Technical Education Program

USU-Moab now has three new certificates that are part of the expanding Career and Technical Education (CTE) offerings which provide students with practical skills and training for a variety of in-demand careers. The Board of Regents recently approved the addition of the Certificates of Proficiency programs in Digital Design, Web Business and Professional Bookkeeping.

“In addition to traditional degrees, we’ve seen a big need to provide our community with training and skills they can use to go to work now, “said USU-Moab Dean and Executive Director, Steve Hawks. “These certificates may also be ‘stacked’, or combined with other coursework and general education classes to earn an associate degree from USU.”

Each of the CTE certificates require 16-19 credit hours of coursework and provides hands-on training to prepare students for entry-level employment in sectors with strong potential for career growth in Moab. “Career and technical education provides students with technical skills relating to industry, along with practical skills for the workplace including critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork,“ stated Stephanie Dahlstrom, USU-Moab’s CTE Coordinator. “We are excited to now offer these certificates because there is a huge need for these skills in nearly every small business in Grand County.”

These new certification programs are a result of the 2015 Utah Cluster Acceleration Partnership (UCAP) grant award, a program designed strengthen collaboration between education, industry, and economic development.
