New National Scholarship Opportunity Available to USU STEM Students

Thanks to the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation, each year one Utah State University student involved in STEM will receive a scholarship of up to $15,000 and an opportunity to attend the foundation’s annual Innovators Week and Gala.

The Astronaut Scholarship Foundation is a nonprofit dedicated to aiding the United States in retaining its world leadership in technology and innovation. The program was founded by the original Mercury 7 Astronauts with a mission to support university students in STEM fields.

During Innovators Week, students will meet other Astronaut Scholars; participate in tours, professional development, and a technical conference; and be awarded their scholarship by an astronaut at a formal gala.

USU is the first university in Utah to be a part of this scholarship program and the 45th university overall to receive this honor.

A scholarship launch event took place at USU earlier this year and featured an interactive space lecture by Mary Cleave and Charlie Precourt, both former astronauts. Cleave is a USU alum and Precourt is a retired executive from Northrop Grumman Propulsion Systems in Promontory.

Cleave and the Northrop Grumman Corporation are both contributing to the scholarship fund.
