Neil Warr Joins Ryan Bruhn in Qualifying for NCAA Track and Field Championships

Warr places third in the javelin at NCAA regional meet


Hammer throwUtah State javelin thrower Neil Warr joined teammate Mark Bruhn to automatically qualify for the NCAA Track and Field Championships as he finished third in the javelin at the NCAA Regional meet on Saturday.

Warr, the USU school record holder in this event, threw 232-06 to place third on Saturday. The top five finishers in each regional event automatically qualify for the NCAA meet. The senior's toss also earned the Aggies six points in the team race.

Warr joined Bruhn, who qualified in the hammer throw on Friday. They will compete in the NCAA meet at Sacramento, Calif. June 11-14.

Justin Wickard finished eighth in the 110-meter hurdles, while Josh Sides placed ninth in the shot put to highlight the USU men's effort on Saturday. On the women's side, Kelli Burton, who had placed sixth in the shot put on Friday, placed ninth in the discus with a throw of 50.18 meters (164-07) on Saturday.

Other Aggies competing on Saturday included Mark Burton, who was 15th in the shot put, Joel Johnson, who tied for 18th in the pole vault and Melanie Marek, who finished 27th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

USU's men placed 14th in the meet with 16 points, while the Aggie women were 22nd with three points.
