NEHMA Museum + Music Series Kicks Off

A plate created by Maria Martinez from the Ildefonso Pueblo is part of the collection of the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art.

Now in its 10th year, the Museum + Music Series will kick off at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, with the concert “Unearthed: Artists and Musicians as Patrons,” featuring Logan Canyon Winds. This series is free and open to the public.

Christopher Scheer, curator for this series and USU musicology professor, states: “Museum + Music is a collaborative event where the musical programs engage with exhibitions in the museum.”

Logan Canyon Winds is USU’s faculty woodwind quintet. They will be playing works by Röntgen, Berk, Dorf and Coleman that relate or respond to artworks currently on view in the “Unearthed” exhibition.

This concert features a series of modern and contemporary works for woodwind quintet commissioned by female musicians, connecting to the museum’s namesake, Nora Eccles Harrison, who was a maker of ceramics as well as a patron of the arts. She brought her experience as an artist to the building of her own collection, which includes many pieces by female artists.

The Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art at Utah State University fosters engagement with modern and contemporary art to facilitate learning and promote dialogue about ideas important to the people of Utah and the mission of Utah State University.

Admission is free and open to all. Parking is available in the free museum parking stalls and at the Gateway Terrace.
