NEHMA Announces 'A Conversation With George Herms'

LOGAN — The Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art is excited to announce a moderated conversation with renowned assemblage artist George Herms, led by NEHMA Curator of Collections & Exhibitions Bolton Colburn. This event promises to be an engaging discussion about the Beat movement and Herms’ unique approach to assemblage sculpture using discarded materials from our society.

The event will take place at noon April 21 at Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art on Utah State University’s campus. The event will be free and open to the public, and a reception will follow.

George Herms is a true rebel at heart, known for his iconic work as one of the last living Beat Generation artists. He has been a prominent figure in both northern and southern California, actively contributing to the Assemblage and Beat movements since the 1960s. With a passion for creating art from the castoffs and waste of our culture, Herms’ assemblage sculptures reflect his unique perspective on our world.

Herms has collaborated with luminary artists and poets such as Wallace Berman, Bruce Conner, Michael McClure and Diane di Prima, leaving a mark on the art world with his innovate creations. His work continues to captivate audiences with its thought-provoking messages and artistic process. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to hear from George Herms himself as he shares his insights and experiences.

Admission is free and open to all. The museum offers free visitor parking in the lot behind the Russell/Wanlass Performance Hall. For public transportation, ride the Cache Valley Transit routes 1, 4, or the Green or Blue Loop and get off at the Fine Arts stop.
