Nathan Cole and Frank Weinstock to Perform at USU Feb. 3

Los Angeles Philharmonic associate concertmaster, Nathan Cole, is set to perform a violin recital with pianist Frank Weinstock on Monday, Feb. 3, at 7:30 p.m. at Utah State University in the Russell/Wanlass Performance Hall in Logan. 

“I met Nathan Cole 20 years ago at an Isaac Stern Chamber Music Workshop in New York,” Rebecca McFaul, associate professor in the Caine College of the Arts (CCA) and violin in the Fry Street Quartet, said. “Even then, he was clearly an extraordinarily thoughtful and soulful musician and violinist. He has enjoyed great success in an orchestral career, holding positions with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony and now in his post as first assistant concertmaster of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.” 

Alongside his orchestral career, Cole is distinguishing himself as both a soloist and pedagogue, which is clearly fueled by a depth of curiosity and commitment to the instrument, McFaul said. 

Anne Francis Bayless, associate professor in the CCA and cello in the Fry Street Quartet, said that the string students will work with Cole for several days in all kinds of settings, from master classes to seminars on online innovations in teaching, where Cole has made remarkable strides.

“The audience will truly be blown away by this performance,” Francis Bayless said. “Nathan is a musician of profound artistry and true technical mastery.” 

Joining Nathan on stage is Logan audience favorite, Frank Weinstock. 

“Weinstock has performed at USU numerous times in recent years,” Francis Bayless said. “Frank is really one of the most beautiful pianists and collaborators in the country, and we’re thrilled to hear him with Nathan in our beautiful Russell/Wanlass Performance Hall.”
