Men's Basketball Finishes Season among the Best in Two Categories
Utah State [University] men’s basketball finished the 2014-15 season among the best in the nation in ball security and 3-point field goal statistics as final NCAA marks were released on Tuesday [April 7, 2015]. The Aggies finished eighth in the nation in both defensive 3-point field goal percentage (.297) and fewest turnovers (323) and finished in the top-20 in three other statistics.
Utah State was No. 14 in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage, hitting 39.4 percent of its shots from deep, No. 17 in assist/turnover ratio (1.38) and No. 18 in turnovers per game with just 10.4 miscues per outing.
Individually, redshirt freshman forward David Collette finished No. 14 in the nation in field goal percentage, connecting on 59.1 percent of his shots from the floor. The mark was the second best by a freshman this season, trailing only Duke's Jahlil Okafor (.664).
In the Mountain West, Utah State finished among the top five in 11 categories, including 3-point field goal percentage (first, .394), defensive 3-point field goal percentage (first, .297), 3-point field goals made (second, 8.7), assist/turnover ratio (second, 1.4), blocks (third, 4.6 bpg), assists (third, 14.4 apg), defensive rebounds (fourth, 24.6 drpg), field goal percentage (fourth, .452), scoring offense (fourth, 66.6 ppg), scoring defense (fifth, 63.6 ppg) and defensive field goal percentage (fifth, .403).
Individually, Collette also led the Mountain West in field goal percentage (.591) and was among the leaders in blocks (fifth, 1.8 bpg), scoring (ninth, 12.8 ppg) and rebounding (16th, 5.0 rpg).
Sophomore wing Jalen Moore appeared in five different statistical categories, including minutes played (fourth, 34.4 mpg), defensive rebounds (fifth, 5.6 drpg), scoring (sixth, 15.2 ppg), rebounding (seventh, 6.7 rpg) and free throw percentage (eighth, .745).
Junior guards Darius Perkins and Chris Smith also had their names peppered among conference leaders as Perkins finished fourth in assists (3.3 apg) and 3-point field goal percentage (.425), fifth in assist/turnover ratio (1.6) and sixth in 3-point field goals made (2.0). Smith finished second in the MW in 3-point field goal percentage (.474), fifth in 3-point field goals made (2.0) and 10th in the league in scoring with 12.6 points per game.
