Land Cover, Climate Change Topic for Nov. 18 Water@USU Seminar

Water@USU, a Utah State University Water Initiative project, welcomes hydrologist Dennis Lettenmaier of the University of Washington to campus Tuesday, Nov. 18.  Lettenmaier presents “Land Cover and Climate Change Impacts on Hydrology in the Puget Sound Basin” at 3:15 p.m. in the Engineering building, room 101. His talk is free and open to all.

A professor in UW’s Surface Water Hydrology Research Group in the College of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Lettenmaier served as program manager of NASA's Land Surface Hydrology Program at NASA Headquarters from 1997-98. His areas of research interest include large-scale hydrology, hydrologic aspects of remote sensing and hydrology-climate interactions.
 
Lettenmaier received the American Society of Chemical Engineers’ Huber Research Prize in 1990 and the American Geophysical Union’s Hydrology Section Award in 2000. 
 
The author or co-author of more than 200 journal articles, Lettenmaier is a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union, the American Meteorological Society, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and is a member of the International Water Academy. 
 
The final Water@USU Seminar speaker for 2008 is Arjun Heimsath of Arizona State University. He speaks Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 3:15 p.m. in the Engineering building, room 101.
 
Water@USU is an interdisciplinary collaboration of the university’s Utah Water Research Laboratory, the colleges of Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences, Natural Resources, Science, Engineering, Agriculture and the Huntsman School of Business. Established in 2003, the initiative fosters collegial sharing of water-related research and ideas throughout campus and the community.
