Janet Quinney Lawson Institute for Land, Water & Air to Give 3rd Annual Report

Salt Lake City — Utah State University’s Janet Quinney Lawson Institute for Land, Water and Air will release a report to the governor and state legislature regarding the state of Utah’s land, water and air at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, at the Gallivan Center in Salt Lake City.

Joel Ferry, executive director of the Utah Department of Natural Resources, USU President Elizabeth Cantwell, and the institute’s executive director, Brian Steed, will be featured at the event.

The 2023 edition of the report to the governor and legislature features five sections: Land, Water, Air, and two special sections focused on the Colorado River and Energy. Each section examines current issues being studied by experts at USU and around the state.

Highlights from the report include ways to mitigate wildfire’s impacts; developments in water use and conservation for Utah’s residents and the Great Salt Lake; updates on Utah’s air quality; concerning issues surrounding the Colorado River, and challenges and opportunities for Utah’s energy grid.
