Inclusive Excellence Symposium Returns Oct. 12

By Marcus Jensen |

LOGAN, Utah — Utah State University’s 5th annual Inclusive Excellence Symposium will return Oct. 12-13 with sessions and workshops presented by USU faculty and staff. The symposium is hosted by the Division of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion and will be in the Eccles Conference Center.

USU’s annual Inclusive Excellence Symposium promotes diversity, inclusion and respect in the USU community by offering education, research and training for understanding the experiences of underrepresented groups. The two-day event will feature USU professionals sharing experiences and expertise with the goal of creating equity and inclusion both on-campus and beyond.

“The objective of this year's Inclusive Excellence Symposium is to identify, define and relate inclusive excellence and its practices to research, teaching, leadership and academic excellence through formal workshops and TedED style presentations,” said Isaiah Jones, senior director for Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion. “We also hope to facilitate and recognize collaborative efforts that advance diversity, equity and inclusive excellence at USU methods that highlight work across campus and the community.”

The conference will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on each day, with two three-hour blocks. Topics for the symposium will be inclusive excellence in mentoring, inclusive leadership, inclusive excellence in campus-community advocacy, sustainability, career design and more.

The Inclusive Excellence Symposium emphasizes the benefits of greater diversity within our communities. Attendees will receive education and training for understanding the experiences of underrepresented groups; understand how they can reduce barriers to the academic and career success of people in these groups; and have opportunities for networking, collaboration and dialogue among faculty, staff, students and community members.

In addition to the Division of DEI, the event is co-sponsored by the President’s Office, Division of Student Affairs, Office of Global Engagement, University Marketing and Communications, USU Libraries, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, USUSA, and the Emma Jones College of Education and Human Services.

The event is free, but pre-registration is required. Registration and more information can be found at www.usu.edu/dei/engagement/inclusive-excellence-symposium.
