Health Benefits Program Update

President Hall met Feb. 6 with the Health Benefits Committee. The committee reported that implementation of premiums one year ago has helped to increase the health plan reserve by $500,000. The months of coverage provided by the reserve is now up to 1.7 – still far short of the 4-month minimum needed. The task at hand is to generate funding to conscientiously raise not only the dollar amount of the reserves, but the months of coverage provided by the reserve.

Hall complimented the committee for their yeoman effort in helping to stabilize the university's health program in light of significant hikes in health costs in recent years. "You have done an extremely good job," he said. "We are light years ahead of where we were 18 months ago."

The committee's recommendation for a coverage plan and premium costs for the coming fiscal year is expected to be released in early March to allow for a university-wide comment period.
