Head of the American Enterprise Institute to Speak at Utah State University

Arthur C. Brooks, president of the American Enterprise Institute, a nonpartisan policy think tank, will deliver a public lecture on the benefits of free enterprise Wednesday, April 17, at Utah State University. The talk, “Making a Moral Case for Free Enterprise,” is presented by the university’s Project on Liberty and American Constitutionalism and the American Enterprise Institute.

Brooks is a bestselling author and policy scholar known for his studies on the intersections between culture, economics and politics. He has authored 10 books, including Gross National Happiness: Why Happiness Matters for America—and How We Can Get More of It, and more recently,  The New York Times bestseller The Road to Freedom: How to Win the Fight for Free Enterprise (2012).

Before heading AEI, Brooks was the Louis A. Bantle Professor of Business and Government Policy at Syracuse University. He is also an accomplished musician. Before earning his doctorate in policy analysis, Brooks spent 12 years as a professional French hornist with the City Orchestra of Barcelona and other ensembles.

USU’s Project on Liberty and American Constitutionalism’s investigates the meaning of liberty in the American constitutional system, emphasizing the Founders’ commitment to limited and responsible government that promotes individual liberty, free markets and a strong national defense. The project often brings policy scholars like Brooks to USU for public discussions of this nature. The talk begins at noon and runs until 1 p.m. in Old Main, Room 225, Wednesday, April 17.
