Gymnast Ashley Barr Named Utah State Athlete of the Week

Utah State gymnast Ashley Barr was named Utah State's Athlete of the Week, it was announced on Monday. Barr was unanimously selected for the honor by a local media panel.


Barr, a freshman from Littleton, Colo., had career high 9.875s on bars and floor and tied teammate Jessica Parenti for her first career event title as Utah State fell to Ohio State 196.375-195.275. She also was one of four Aggies to post a career best on floor (9.875), and was named gymnast of the meet.

This year, Barr ranks third on the team with a beam score of 9.561. She is also fifth on bars with a score of 9.366.

The Aggies face BYU, Southern Utah and Central Michigan in a 7 p.m. meet on Friday, March 7 in Provo, Utah.


Nominees from other sports...

Basketball -- Desmond Penigar... Penigar recorded his third double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds against Idaho. He also tied his career high with two assists in the game, and played a season-high 31 minutes.

Men's Tennis -- Andrew Marsh... Marsh, a freshman, helped men's tennis record the doubles point before falling at BYU 1-6 Friday. Teamed with Ryan Bair in the No. 3 spot, the Aggie duo outlasted the Cougar tandem of Sperry/Price, 9-8. Marsh is 3-0 in doubles this season.

Softball -- Marcie Neff... Neff, a senior, led the Aggies in hitting in two games against Arkansas this weekend. She hit 3-5 on the day with two walks.
