Guest Brings Digital Web Design to USU's Visiting Artist Program

Artist, designer and technologist Joshua Davis will be on the Utah State University campus Nov. 6-8 as part of the art department’s Visiting Artist Program.

Davis will present a public lecture, free and open to all, Monday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m. in the in the Eccles Conference Center, room 216. A question/discussion session follows the lecture.

Davis is a professional designer and creative thinker. He divides his time working with clients, traveling the world speaking at conferences and workshops about his inspirations and motivations, building his own creative projects and teaching as a professor at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. He produces both public and private work for companies, collectors and institutions. He has used technology and computers as a medium since 1995.

In addition to the evening public lecture, Davis will meet with students in classes and will present a workshop Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 7 and 8, from 6-10 p.m. in FAV 150. The workshops, “Dynamic Abstraction-Writing Art-Making Machines” and using Macromedia Flash, are free and open to the public.

“This is an incredible opportunity for students to be able to learn from a master of Web design,” said Dave Smellie, professor in the art department. “Anyone interested in art, design or technology should attend the lecture. The workshop is an extensive examination of his process and approach for creating his artwork and will give students a chance to ask further questions.”
