Grant to Fund Vietnamese Literature Project

Charles Waugh, professor of English at Utah State University, recently received a New Faculty Research Grant to fund a project to bring new voices about Vietnam to the United States.

Waugh will to travel to Hanoi, Vietnam, in 2008 to translate contemporary Vietnamese fiction. While abroad, he plans interview men and women who taught American literature to North Vietnamese troops during the American war in Vietnam. Waugh also plans to create a collection of original stories that addresses contemporary exchanges between Vietnamese, Americans, and the rest of the world.
 
The New Faculty Research Grant is provided by Utah State University to professors on the tenure track in their first or second year of employment.
