Food, Aggie Tradition & Scholarships: 2022 Utah Agricultural Products Barbecue

By Lynnette Harris |

Utah food producers donate their products and volunteer to prepare and serve them alongside CAAS faculty and students, all to benefit scholarships.

It’s nearly time for Aggie football and the annual Utah Agricultural Products Barbecue, hosted by Utah State University’s College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences. This year’s event is Saturday, Sept. 24, before the USU vs. University of Nevada Las Vegas football game. The barbecue is from 2-4:30 p.m. at Craig Aston Park (1350 N. 800 East, Logan), just north of Maverik Stadium, and kick-off happens at 5 p.m.

The barbecue features Utah-grown beef, dairy products, pork, onion rings, salad, lamb, corn, apples, Creamies, and more. The event is sponsored by Utah’s Own and supports scholarships for USU students.

A collaboration between participating commodity groups, companies and the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences, volunteers from commodity groups and the college prepare and serve the meal in an outdoor festival atmosphere where guests can try all sorts of delicious food. The event has become a beloved fall tradition at USU for the agricultural community, alumni, donors and friends.

All proceeds go to the Utah Agricultural Leadership Endowment at USU to help train future generations of Utah’s farmers, ranchers and agribusiness people through scholarship support. Thanks to the generosity of companies, commodity groups and people attending the barbecue, 29 scholarships are being awarded this year. Since 2000, the endowment has supported the educations of 362 students by providing a total of $279,670 in scholarships.

Tickets and more information are at caas.usu.edu/alumni/ag-bbq.
