Five Utah State Football Players To Play In All-Star Games
Utah State wide receiver Kevin Curtis will compete in the annual Senior Bowl all-star football game at Mobile, Ala. on Saturday. The game will be televised by ESPN at noon mountain time.
Four other Aggies will participate in the Paradise Bowl in St. George, Utah on Jan. 25 as Jesse Busta, Jose Fuentes, Jamar Glasper and Jim Newton will represent the school in that game.
Curtis, who in two seasons became USU's second-leading career receiver with 174 receptions for 2,789 yards, will be the first Aggie to compete in the Senior Bowl since Jermaine Younger in 1994. This season Curtis had 74 catches for 1,258 yards. He ranked sixth in the NCAA in yards per game and 12th in receptions per contest.
Curtis was also invited to play in the East-West Shrine game, which was held on Jan. 11, but opted for the game in Alabama. Last year ex-Aggie Emmett White played in the East-West Shrine game.
The Paradise Bowl features players from the mountain region.
Busta finished 11th in the country in tackles per game at 12.27. He finished his Aggie career with 392 tackles to rank third in school history. The 6-2, 244-pound linebacker also became one of just three players in school history to record at least 100 tackles in three different seasons.
Fuentes finished his career as the school's all-time leading passer with 9,168 yards. The 6-3, 221-pounder set a season yardage record by throwing for 3,28 yards in 2002.
Glasper, a 6-1, 201-pound safety had three straight 50-tackle seasons and was fourth on the team with 61 stops this season. Newton was a three-year starter at offensive tackle and at 6-10, 298 pounds, was the tallest player in USU football history.
