Fiefia Named Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week

Aggie tailback produced 159 yards from scrimmage against #16 Arizona State

David FiefiaUtah State tailback David Fiefia was named the Sun Belt Conference offensive football player of the week for his efforts against 16th-ranked Arizona State. Fiefia became the first Utah State player to earn an honor from the new conference.

Fiefia, a senior from West Valley City, Utah, recorded 159 yards from scrimmage Sept. 13 as he rushed 19 times for 77 yards and caught six passes for 82 more yards. His 82 yards in receptions were a career best, while his 77 rushing yards were his second most in a game.

The 5-8, 200-pounder became the first Utah State player to record at least 70 rushing and 70 receiving yards in the same game since 2001. On the year, Fiefia has rushed for 191 yards, and his 10 receptions for 113 yards are third on the team.

Utah State has been an independent for the past two seasons, so Fiefia's honor was the first such award for an Aggie since wide receiver Aaron Jones was named the Big West Conference offensive player of the week on Nov. 11, 2000. Jones set a school record with 297 receiving yards against Boise State that day.

The Sun Belt also recognized linebacker Chris Hurd of North Texas as the defensive player of the week and Arkansas State punter Jarod Little as the special teams player of the week.

Utah State lost to the Sun Devils 26-16 and will have a bye week before hosting its home and conference opener against Louisiana-Monroe on Sept. 27 at 6 p.m.
