Emma Eccles Jones College of Education & Human Services Receives High National Rankings

Ranking Highlights for USU’s Emma Eccles Jones College of Education & Human Services:

• No. 30 in the Nation for Best Graduate Schools of Education

• No. 13 Nationally in Funded Research With $37 Million Annually

• No. 1 College of Education in Utah for the 22nd Year in a Row

The Emma Eccles Jones College of Education & Human Services at Utah State University has once again been placed among the nation’s top colleges of education by U.S. News and World Report, a global leader in education rankings.

In the 2023 edition of "America's Best Graduate Schools," the college was ranked No. 30 of 274 Graduate Schools of Education in the nation. The rankings were released March 29.

The college is the only school of education in Utah to place in the nation’s top 50 and remains the No. 1 college of education in the state — a title it has held for 22 years. Individual programs from the departments of Psychology, Special Education and Rehabilitation Counseling, and Communication Disorders and Deaf Education also achieved top 50 rankings:

• No. 13 in Best Online Bachelor's in Psychology Programs (Department of Psychology)
• No. 15 in Rehabilitation Counseling Graduate Programs (Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation Counseling)
• No. 40 in Audiology Graduate Programs (Department of Communicative Disorders and Deaf Education)
• No. 45 in Speech-Language Pathology Graduate Programs (Department of Communicative Disorders and Deaf Education)

U.S. News and World Report bases its rankings on a weighted average of 10 quality measures, including peer assessments, faculty resources, faculty awards and GRE scores for doctoral students.

“These rankings place us among the most elite schools of education nationally,” said Alan Smith, dean of the Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services. “They showcase the excellence of our faculty, staff, students and partners who have advanced our mission and continue to make breakthrough developments in education and human services."

Of significant note, the college ranks 13th nationally in external research funding. With over $37 million annually in external research funding, the college is able to meaningfully advance knowledge and educational practice.

“We are pleased to be recognized as a national leader in external funding,” Smith said. “These funds support our research, teaching and service projects that benefit our students, community, state and nation.”

USU recently attained the prestigious Carnegie R1 Classification, indicating “very high research activity,” a status to which the Emma Eccles Jones College of Education & Human Services has significantly contributed.

The Emma Eccles Jones College of Education & Human Services is committed to providing outstanding real-world research and service opportunities to students and faculty in education and human services disciplines. In addition to their programs and degrees in fields such as nursing, human development, family science, psychology and education, they offer clinical services in multiple arenas, including autism and developmental disabilities, behavioral health, speech-language-hearing, and health education.
