Culture of Compliance: USU Releases New Online Reporting Hub
By Marcus Jensen |
LOGAN, Utah — Utah State University has released a new online reporting hub for sharing concerns with university officials. This new website includes information for students, employees and others who want to report information about potential misconduct they have witnessed, experienced or heard about from others.
The university strives to create a respectful and ethical learning and working environment by creating a culture of compliance and caring for students, faculty, staff and visitors. To that end, USU provides multiple ways for reporting concerns or potential policy violations, both on the web or via various phone hotlines. Anyone can report any concern, and individuals can also report anonymously, depending upon the circumstance.
Concerns involving students can be reported through Student Affairs, and can be reported by employees, families, the public or other students. Reportable concerns include:
- Student wellbeing or students of concern.
- Student code violations.
- Academic misconduct.
- Student behavioral concerns.
Faculty, staff and advisers can also share concerns about student academic performance and engagement to alert the Office of Academic Belonging & Learning Excellence.
USU employees are expected to report concerns that violate USU policy or create safety concerns. Types of reports could include, but are not limited to:
- Fiscal misconduct.
- Workplace injury or incident.
- Retaliatory actions.
- Employee or workplace concerns.
Additionally, students and employees can report sexual misconduct or discriminationto the USU Office of Equity online, in person or over the phone. Employees who are designated as reporting employees must report an incident of sexual misconduct they witness or learn about, and all reporting employees receive annual training to explain their obligations. Questions about reporting sexual misconduct can be directed to USU’s Title IX coordinator, Cody Carmichael, in the Office of Equity.
Crimes should be reported to the appropriate law enforcement agency. For urgent safety concerns or life-threatening emergency, individuals should call 9-1-1 immediately. To report non-life-threatening emergencies on the Logan campus, call USU Police at 435-797-1939. General safety concerns can also be shared this way.
Crimes on the USU Eastern campus in Price should be reported to USU Eastern Police at 435-650-7380.
Those who are unsure where to report, are uncomfortable reporting through traditional reporting lines, or want to remain anonymous may report through USU’s reporting hotline. EthicsPoint is USU's third-party hotline provider, and they do not track anonymous reporters in any way.
