Competition Ends In Photo Finish

Taunya Martin took two first place prizes in the 2nd Annual International Photo Contest.

Martin, a junior majoring in family and human development, won first place in both the judges' and people's choice prizes for the people categorie of the contest. Her photo was titled "Textured Thoughts" and depicts a small girl in Jamaica.

Other first-place winners include Mary Wharton with her photo "Castle Bell," taken in Slovania and Melanie Andrus with her photo "Chateax D'oex Landscape" from Switzerland.

Each of the winners recieved a $100 scholarship, an 8x10 enlargement of her photo, a disposable camera and two gift certificates for local restaurants.

Sarah Heiner, staff assistant for the Study Abroad office which sponsored the contest, said the winners were chosen from among 69 entries.

"This is a great number," Heiner said. "Last year there were only 24 entries. We were pretty excited."

The contest was divided into four categories including a judges' and people's choice award for both "People" and "Places."

This is the second year the contest has been held as part of International Education Week.

"It provides a chance for students who have travelled abroad to share their exerience," Heiner said.
