Colorado River Basin Topic for Nov. 4 Water@USU Seminar

Water@USU, a Utah State University Water Initiative project, welcomes hydrologist and author Peter F. Ffolliot to campus Tuesday, Nov. 4. Ffolliot presents “The Contributions of Watershed Management Research to Water Supply in the Colorado River Basin” at 3:15 p.m. in the Engineering building, room 101. His talk is free and open to all.

The Colorado River Basin is the focus of a wide diversity of research efforts on the effects of natural and human-induced disturbances on the basin’s watersheds, Ffolliot says. He will discuss how this research is guiding the formulation of integrated watershed management practices to help meet the growing water demands of the American Southwest.

Ffolliot is professor of watershed management, dendrochronology and arid lands in the University of Arizona’s School of Natural Resources. He is a Fellow of the Society of American Foresters, the Indian Association of Hydrologists and the Arizona-Nevada Academy of Science. Ffolliot has authored and co-authored more than 500 publications, including Natural Environments of Arizona: From Desert to Mountains, Riparian Areas of the Southwestern United States and Natural Resources Management Practices: A Primer.

Upcoming Water@USU Seminar speakers include Dennis Lettenmaier, University of Washington, Nov. 18, and Arjun Heimsath, Arizona State University, Dec. 2. The seminars, free and open to all, are held at 3:15 p.m. in the Engineering building, room 101.

Water@USU is an interdisciplinary collaboration of the university’s Utah Water Research Laboratory, the colleges of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, Natural Resources, Science, Engineering, Agriculture and the Huntsman School of Business. Established in 2003, the initiative fosters collegial sharing of water-related research and ideas throughout campus and the community.
