College of Engineering Awards Presented

Utah State University's College of Engineering honored its outstanding seniors, faculty, distinguished alumni and distinguished service recipients at the college's annual awards banquet held during National Engineering Week, February 17-21.


Five students were recognized as outstanding seniors by their respective departments: Christopher B. Fox of River Heights, biological and irrigation engineering; Eric C. Olsen of Vernal, civil and environmental engineering; Robert L. Blaser of Rexburg, Idaho, electrical and computer engineering; Logan C. Phipps of Farmington, industrial technology and education; Spencer R. Fugal of Lindon, mechanical and aerospace engineering.

Other Awards were handed out as well:
Outstanding advisor: Carl G. Wood from mechanical and aerospace engineering.
Outstanding Teacher: Michael C. Johnson from civil and environmental engineering department.
Research Excellence: Linda S. Powers from electrical and computer engineering.

Distinguished alumni awards went to:
Andrew A. Keller, senior vice-president of Keller-Bliesner Engineering, LLC in Logan; Ronald W. Jibson, general manager of Questar Pipeline and Questar Gas in Salt Lake City; Ronald L. Thurgood, professor and associate dean emeritus with the electrical and computer engineering department at Utah State;
Rudy B. Puzey, emeritus dean of the College of Physical Science and Engineering at Brigham Young University Idaho in Rexburg, Idaho, and current faculty member of the architecture and construction management department at that institution; and David A. Bell, director and chief technical officer at HemaMetrics in Bountiful.

Distinguished Service awards were presented to:
Christian R. Julien, marketing manager of liquid handling systems at HyClone in Logan; Norman B. Jones, professor emeritus in the civil and environmental engineering department at Utah State; Ralph M. Haycock, professor emeritus in the department of mechanical and aerospace engineering at Utah State; and
Micron Technology Inc. located in Boise, Idaho. Micron’s founder, Ward Parkinson, is a Utah State graduate from the electrical engineering department.
