College of Agriculture & Applied Sciences Ready for CAAS Week

Utah State University’s College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences will celebrate its students and programs during CAAS week activities from Sept. 19-24, with different events happening each day.

CAAS week is a yearly event and an opportunity to showcase and celebrate students in the college and a way to raise awareness of the college’s programs in the community both on and off campus.

“CAAS Week is an amazing opportunity we have to show off the diverse aspects we have in this college,” said Cade Cox, the CAAS senator. “It also gives students a chance to participate in CAAS traditions that really bring a sense of family to our college. This is my favorite week of the year, and we get really excited about it.”

To kick things off, Monday, Sept.19, there will be a Snacktivity on the Agricultural Science and Research building patio, east of the Quad from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be yard games, snacks and a chance to meet fellow CAAS students as well as some members of the student leadership council.

CAAS Week T-shirts are available to purchase at activities or at the CAAS Student Services office on the fourth floor of the AGRS building.

On Tuesday, the cow milking contest will return to the cross-country track parking lot, at the corner of 1400 North and 1200 East, beginning at 6:45 p.m. This is a fun activity for anyone to participate in — whether competing or just to try your hand at milking. Afterward, there will be a drive-in movie night with a showing of “Talladega Nights.”

Wednesday, Sept. 21 will be the Day on the Patio from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Come out and get a kabob from the CAAS leadership team and spend the afternoon playing yard games and hanging out with fellow Aggies.

The virtual career fair is coming on Thursday from 6-7 p.m. Join online from anywhere and meet USU alumni as they give presentations and share career-building advice. It is going to be an amazing growth opportunity to learn from alumni in different careers and what they did to get to where they are. The event is co-sponsored by USU’s Career Design Center. On Friday, the tractor parade is making a comeback. Join in at 11:45 a.m. on Aggie Bull-evard to watch the different tractors and floats trek down the street and celebrate programs and clubs in the college. The tractors and other parade vehicles will travel from the Agricultural Sciences, Technology and Education (ASTE) building, south on 800 East from 1400 North to Aggie Bull-evard, then east to 1200 East (by the Chase Fine Arts Center and Aggie Creamery and the travels north on 1200 East to 1400 North and back to the ASTE building. Come out and enjoy a nice afternoon.

Friday and Saturday nights, the USU Rodeo Club Fall Stampede returns to the Cache Valley Fairgrounds at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 with a USU student ID and $10 for adults. Both nights are going to be action-packed.

The week wraps up with the annual Utah Agricultural Products Barbeque at Craig Aston Park from 2-4:30 p.m., just before kickoff for the UNLV vs. USU football game. The barbecue is a festival of food produced in Utah and donated so proceeds from the tickets support CAAS student scholarships. Cox urges everyone to come out, grab some great food, and then go support Aggie football. The park is located at 1390 N. 800 East, and tickets are available on the CAAS website.
