Cache Children's Choir Will Bring Holiday Spirit With Upcoming Winter Concert

LOGAN, Utah — Cache Children’s Choir invites the community to celebrate the joy of the holiday season at their upcoming concert, “REJOICE!” Over 100 children and youths throughout Cache County, Kindergarten through 9th grade, will perform a variation of holiday favorites and cultural pieces. The event will start at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 16 in the Daryl Chase Fine Arts Center’s Daines Concert Hall at Utah State University.
Cache Children’s Choir has four of its five age groups performing in the concert.
- Caprice: Grades K-1.
- Cadet: Grades 2-3.
- Chorale: Grades 4-5.
- Cantate: Grades 6-9.
The program will feature Christmas favorites such as “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” and “Jolly Old Saint Nicholas.” The oldest group, Cantate, will perform cultural holiday songs such as “Niño Lindo” and “Viva la Musica” where they will sing in different languages and incorporate movements and dynamics.
Artistic Director Allen Matthews wanted to challenge the kids and emphasized the choir’s goals for this year.
“One of our priorities this year was to encourage the kids to have a lifelong love for singing while also teaching them how to be great citizens,” Matthews said. “Introducing new cultures and languages helps open their eyes and expand their understanding of the world.”
Since September, the children have been rehearsing once a week to perfect their pieces. Along with these rehearsals, many choir members were also involved in the Cache Valley Civic Ballet performance of “The Nutcracker.”
“These kids worked incredibly hard, and I am proud and excited to see them be able to perform what they have been working on for several months now,” Matthews said.
Matthews highlights the theme of rejoicing and how this event will bring a sense of unity by bringing together choir members from different cultures and backgrounds.
“Audience members will leave with a deeper sense of community and how to be the best of what we can be together,” Matthews said.
“REJOICE!” is free and open to the public with no ticket required. For additional information, visit USU's online calendar.
