Business Education Degree Offered Statewide

Students can complete a degree in business education at multiple sites around the state thanks to a new program in USU's School of Applied Sciences, Technology and Education.

Earning a degree in business education is now possible at Utah State University campuses throughout Utah. The program will help fulfill the state’s high demand for business educators, while providing educational opportunities to students.

The business education bachelor’s degree program will be available at USU campuses in Logan, Brigham City, Tooele, Nephi, Beaver, Milford, Richfield, Ephraim, Uintah Basin, Price, Moab and Blanding.

Through classroom studies and real-world experiences, business education students will learn to effectively teach a variety of subjects, including accounting, personal finance, economics and more.

“Business educators have the unique opportunity to inspire the next generation of great business leaders,” said Dennis Garner, the faculty advisor for business education.

The program is offered through the School of Applied Sciences, Technology and Education (ASTE) in USU’s College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences. The school houses three additional programs to train future teachers, all of which have 100 percent placement into teaching positions for graduating students.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment opportunities for business educators are projected to increase approximately 15 percent between 2012 and 2022.

ASTE department head Bruce Miller said the business education program is a response to the growing demand for qualified teachers.

“There just aren’t enough business teachers in Utah,” Miller said. “With this program, we address the need for business educators. Through distance education, we provide access to students who can’t attend college in a traditional manner.”

Program graduates will be qualified to teach and advise students at middle schools, high schools and technical education centers.
