Art Students Explore Germany

Fourteen students from Utah State University traveled to Germany this summer to study art. Under the direction of faculty member Christopher Terry, the group studied and worked in Essen, Germany.

Examples of the students' work will be exhibited on campus in an exhibition that runs Aug. 30 through Sept. 10 in the Tippetts Exhibition Hall of the Chase Fine Arts Center. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. A reception for the students and exhibition is Friday, Sept. 9, from 7-9 p.m. and the public is welcome.

A variety of work will be shown, and each student will be represented by three to five works. Drawings and paintings will be seen.

"This is spontaneous work," Terry said. "We were working on site, and much of the work could be described as studies and sketches rather than polished and finished works."

The students have taken an active role in planning the exhibition, Terry continued. The trip was a success and the students want to share their experiences.

During the stay in Essen, the students were featured in several news stories in the German media. One piece noted that the students were impressed with the landscape and described Essen as a "hidden jewel" and an inspiring place for artists.
