Aggies Hold Off New Mexico State, 32-30

Jose Fuentes threw for 299 yards as Utah State beat New Mexico State 32-30 on Saturday.

The Aggies (3-6 overall) won despite a last-minute, 2-point conversion by quarterback Paul Dombrowski and snapped a five-game winning streak by New Mexico State (4-0 Sun Belt, 6-4 overall.)

Dombrowski's conversion came right after he'd broken a school record for quarterbacks by rushing 92 yards for two touchdowns.

The matchup pitted the rushing offense of New Mexico State against the struggling defense of Utah State, which allowed 654 yards of offense to Louisiana Monroe in a 51-48 overtime loss on Oct. 26.

New Mexico State running back Tony Bostic tallied 43 rushing yards, while wide receiver H.B. Briscoe had 112 yards receiving and a touchdown.

Dombrowski threw for 126 yards in 5-of-8 attempts.

New Mexico's five-game winning streak was the school's longest since 1960, when they beat Utah State in the Sun Bowl.

They are looking for their first league title since 1978. New Mexico State will travel to Denton, Texas next week to take on No. 2-ranked North Texas.

It was the last time Utah State will play as an independent. The Aggies will join the Sun Belt Athletic Conference next year.
