Aggie Chocolate Factory Introduces Chocolate Science Saturdays
By Shelby Ruud Jarman |
The Utah State University Aggie Chocolate Factory is introducing a new event: Chocolate Science Saturdays, an interactive experience for chocolate enthusiasts. The inaugural Science Saturday event will be Feb. 22.
Chocolate Science Saturdays take chocolate tastings to the next level by incorporating a more food science-focused approach. Participants will explore the world of cocoa and chocolate, discovering what sets high-quality cacao apart through an engaging, sensory experience.
“This event takes a more analytical, qualitative approach to tasting chocolate and cacao,” said Sasha Salazar, a chocolate production technician at the Aggie Chocolate Factory. “We want participants to leave with a deeper appreciation for the science and craftsmanship that go into every chocolate bar.”
During the event, attendees will learn about the history of chocolate and interesting facts about cacao, collaborate in small groups to develop flavor profiles for different types of chocolate, use all five senses to identify primary and secondary cacao beans and compare good-quality chocolate with lesser-quality options by feeling, smelling and tasting cocoa beans and various chocolate samples.
Science Saturdays are designed for individual adults, friend groups and couples looking for a unique activity. The event takes place at the Aggie Chocolate Factory in the Aggie Blue Square complex, 1111 N. 800 E., Logan. Two sessions are available: noon to 1p.m. and 2 to 3 p.m. Please note that this event is not designed for children. Tickets are $13 per person and can be purchased here.
