Aggie Basketball Rallies Past Cal Poly, 64-63

Spencer Nelson scored 15 points including two key baskets in the final three minutes as Utah State beat Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 64-63 Saturday night.


Utah State (17-5, 8-3 Big West Conference) rallied from an eight-point second-half deficit and used a 10-1 run to beat Cal Poly (9-11, 5-6).

Nelson scored to give Utah State a 62-61 lead with 2:35 left. After Cal Poly's Diaby Kamara made one of two free throws, Nelson made another basket to give the Aggies a 64-62 lead with 2:02 to play.

Both teams then went cold. The only point scored in the final two minutes was a free throw from Cal Poly's Shane Schilling with 53 seconds left.

Schilling led all scorers with 19 points and Varnie Dennis had 18 for Cal Poly.

Desmond Penigar led Utah State with 18 points and went 10-of-11 from the free-throw line.
