ADVS Hosts International Visitors; Discuss Global Animal Cloning Practices

The Department of Animal, Dairy and Veterinary Sciences at Utah State University recently served as one of the stops of a 10-day international visit aimed at discussing a range of issues surrounding animal cloning, animal biotechnologies and global livestock trade.

The international group included 10 individuals representing seven countries, all in influential positions regarding policy and regulations surrounding animal cloning in the European Union. Represented countries included Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Germany, Netherlands, Romania, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

The group came to the United States through the Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program as arranged by the Institute of International Education.

While at Utah State University, the group visited USU’s cloning lab, USTAR building and USU’s research farms. In addition, the visitors attended a spider silk demonstration and talks given by ADVS department head Ken White and faculty members Irina Polejaeva of the College of Agriculture and Justin Jones and Randy Lewis from the College of Science.

While in the United States, this international group also visited the Food and Drug Administration in Washington, D.C., TransOva in Sioux Falls, Iowa, and University of California-Davis, in addition to other animal biotechnology companies in Sioux Falls, Minneapolis and San Francisco.
