USU College of Science Hosts 'Science Week' Oct. 31-Nov. 4

The Utah State University community is invited to enjoy brain-energizing fun as USU’s College of Science student council hosts Science Week Oct. 31-Nov. 4.

“Our student-led Science Council has put together a variety of great activities,” says Gabriella Cale, USUSA College of Science senator. “There’s something for everyone, with networking, learning, games, prizes, food and fun.”

All are invited to Science Week activities, which include:

Monday, Oct. 31

Participate in Spooky Science, Snacks & Slime from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Taggart Student Center Hub and outdoor patio. The Science Council will serve root beer floats and orange Fanta indoors and hot chocolate outdoors, along with Halloween-themed snacks. Aggies can also get in the festive spirit of the season with spooky slime-making.

Tuesday, Nov. 1

From noon to 2:30 p.m., all Aggies are invited to Dogs, Donuts & Don’t Stress in the TSC International Lounge. Relax with therapy dogs, enjoy baked treats and participate in a yoga activity.

Wednesday, Nov. 2

Marvel at science demonstrations and learn how to get involved in USU’s varied STEM-related student organizations at the Science Club Fest from noon to 3 p.m. in the Biology-Natural Resources building atrium.

Thursday, Nov. 3

In four minutes with four slides, student researchers will present Rapid Fire Presentations about big ideas from 6-7 p.m. in the Life Sciences Building Auditorium (LSB 133). Following the talks, mix and mingle with presenters and enjoy free refreshments. Students can apply to present until Oct. 30.

Friday, Nov. 4

Love trivia? Head to the Life Sciences Building Auditorium (LSB 133) from 5-7 p.m. for Science Trivia. The competition will include 100 questions, five rounds with questions from all subjects and a “sudden death” round between winners. Prizes will be awarded after each round and raffle tickets will be distributed to attendees throughout the event.

On Nov. 4, Aggies are also invited to Science Unwrapped at 7 p.m. in the Eccles Science Learning Center Emert Auditorium (ESLC 130). Featured speaker is USU physicist Rob Davies, who presents Fantasies of Continuous Growth: Saying the Quiet Part Out Loud. Hands-on learning activities conducted by USU student groups and community organizations follow the talk.

Also on Nov. 4, all are invited to Public Viewing Night at the USU Observatory on the roof of the Science Engineering Research (SER) building from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Important note: Please visit observatory.usu.edu prior to arrival on public night, as the gathering will be cancelled in the event of cloudy or inclement weather.
