85% of Students Vaccinated or Plan to Vaccinate for Spring

By Jen Wright |

USU has held multiple on-campus vaccine clinics for students and employees in 2021.

As part of USU’s COVID-19 vaccination requirement for the spring 2022 semester, students have been completing a vaccine declaration when they register for spring classes. At the end of November, 92% of USU students throughout the state had submitted declarations – a total of 22,383.

Of the completed declarations, 85% have said they are fully vaccinated (77.5%) or plan to be by spring semester (7.5%). At USU’s residential campuses, that combined percentage is:

  • Logan campus: 87%
  • USU Eastern: 70%
  • USU Blanding: 86%

At other USU Statewide Campus locations:

  • Salt Lake: 89%
  • Kaysville: 88%
  • Uintah Basin: 67%
  • Orem: 82%
  • Brigham City: 83%
  • Tooele: 76%
  • Southwest: 71%
  • Moab: 82%

“Our students value their USU community and have demonstrated their willingness to help prevent COVID-19 from spreading,” said USU President Noelle E. Cockett. “I appreciate students participating in this declaration. It helps protect our in-person classes and activities, so all students can have the full Aggie experience.”

About 65% of students who report being fully vaccinated have already uploaded proof of vaccination to the Aggie Health system. Knowing a student’s vaccination status allows USU’s COVID-19 Case Containment Team to quickly trace and contain identified cases. USU will follow up with the remaining students who need to upload their vaccination records, as well as those who said they plan to be vaccinated, before spring semester.

USU’s vaccine requirement for spring 2022 semester was announced in August. In accordance with state law, students are allowed to select an exemption for medical, religious or personal reasons. Statewide, about 1.3% of students have taken a medical exemption, 1.7% took a religious exemption, and slightly more than 10% have chosen a personal exemption.
