What can you share in four minutes with four slides?

“A very big idea,” says Utah State University Science Senator Evan Anderson. “And we’re excited to hear what you’re working on, what you’re learning about research and what’s exciting you about what you’re discovering.”

USU undergraduate and graduate student researchers of all majors are invited to apply to present at Rapid Fire Research at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, in the Emert Auditorium (Room ESLC 130) of the Eccles Science Learning Center, as part of USU’s Science Week 2024.

“Whether you’ve been involved in research for years or you’re just getting started, Rapid Fire Research is a great opportunity to gain experience and confidence in presenting your research idea with an enthusiastic, supportive and super-chill audience,” Anderson says.

A panel of faculty judges will review the presentations, and award cash prizes to the top three presenters.

Rapid Fire Research at USU was initiated in Fall 2021 by Utah State alum Manuel Santana, BS’22, who got the idea for creating the event after participating in a similar gathering at another university.

“I learned it’s hard to make an impact with your research, if you can’t properly communicate your ideas and results,” Santana says. “With Rapid Fire, I envisioned an opportunity where students could practice publicly presenting their research in a casual, relaxed atmosphere, while learning about all the different kinds of research Aggies are pursuing throughout the university.”

Students who wish to present at Rapid Fire Research should complete an online application by midnight Friday, Nov. 1.

All are invited to attend the free, Nov. 6 event, along with other Science Week activities Nov. 4-8.
